Basement conversion project in Tikipunga

When the owners of this Tikipunga home approached Breckon Builders, they had a unique vision: transform the unused space beneath their house—perched on a steep hill—into a 30m² bedroom and ensuite. With tight access and tricky terrain, it was no small task, but our experienced team was up for the challenge.

We began by securely propping up the house to allow for excavation beneath the existing structure. After removing the piles and digging out the space, we poured a solid concrete floor and constructed timber-framed walls to support and shape the new living area. Every material had to be moved down the hill by wheelbarrow, adding to the complexity—but the result was a fully functional space that blended seamlessly with the original home.
