When a returning client asked Breckon Builders to add a pine extension to their 1920s Californian Bungalow, our team jumped at the opportunity. The goal wasn’t just to add space—but to honour the original character of the home. From handcrafted architraves to skirting boards, every detail was custom-made to match the home’s traditional style, blending old-world charm with modern functionality.
Replicating nearly century-old techniques was no small task, but it’s exactly the kind of challenge we enjoy. We used older methods and materials to ensure the new build felt like a seamless continuation of the original structure, while still meeting today’s building standards. “Handcrafting everything to match the old part of the house was incredibly rewarding,” says lead builder Sean.
This project reflects what Breckon Builders do best—preserving the architectural integrity of classic homes while enhancing them for modern living. With a strong reputation for bespoke home builds and heritage renovations throughout Northland, we pride ourselves on delivering extensions that feel timeless, cohesive, and made to last.
We have engaged Breckon Builders on several projects on our property, ranging from an extension on our 1920s bungalow to a three-bay commercial shed extension, as well as a full renovation on our rental property. We found Sean from Breckon Builders to be diligent and thorough in all aspects regarding these building projects. Sean completed these to such a standard beyond our expectations. We will definitely be using Breckon Builders on all future building projects.
