Local Kauri Builders: Custom Home Builds in Northland
As trusted local Kauri builders, we had the pleasure of working on this custom home build in the Kauri area, and it was an incredibly rewarding project. We enjoyed integrating two unique materials—Adobo and Coloursteel claddings—creating a seamless visual connection. The client’s interior design concept was exceptional, and it was exciting to see it come together with our craftsmanship.
This custom home build was thoughtfully designed to maximise sunlight, with the house positioned to capture the sun across the front. The warmth it generates heats the concrete floors, which retain warmth well into the evening. Its open design makes this a highly energy-efficient home, complemented by cedar ceilings and notable features such as the negative ceiling detail.
As local Kauri builders, we tackled the unique challenges this project presented. While the design may appear simple, every corner of the house was different, requiring precision and creativity. Transitioning from Abodo cladding to colorsteel, along with managing flashings, called for careful consideration and a step-by-step approach, allowing us to develop new techniques. Quality control was a top priority, ensuring that each timber element was perfect as we put it up.
This project took about a year and demonstrated our expertise as Northland bespoke builders, especially given the semi-steep site, which had been cut in and filled 2 metres at the rear. Our experience as local Kauri builders allowed us to overcome these challenges and deliver a custom home that exceeded expectations.
“We had great communication with the client from the get-go,” says Sean, “and probably won the job through a combination of that and word of mouth.
